Brazilian author proposes to divide the nation into five independent countries.

On April, 3rd, in Sao Paulo, Hermano Leitão, a Brazilian lawyer and playwright, will launch his new book called Brazil, a nation without character. In five short chapters, he reviews the last five centuries of local History, to propose the division of Brazil into five independent new countries with five autonomous structures of power, under the blessing five stars of the Cruzeiro do Sul constellation. He found out that the poverty and inequality of the country wealth distribution are due to miss conduction of social and economic public policies which maintain every part of the country attached one to another with restrictions in the way to development.

Divided to be united
In a concept that designs different regions and cultural approaches, the book stresses the necessity of releasing each part of Brazil to achieve a better model of development based on local potentialities, as the generalist public policies applied to the entire nation have been proved an inefficient tool to rule a great diversity of particular demands. In his table of contents, the author puts into effect an organization which breaks apart the present institutional model, in order to form the Brazilian Union. It is quite similar to the European Union traces of origins, but in the way contrary of dividing to be united.

Ruled by local leaders
In a hypothetical exercise of political scenario, Hermano Leitão exemplifies who would rule each new country in order to face each real identity. In this picture, the Amazon region, which he calls Republic of Cyrio, would be ruled by Marina Silva, a former Brazilian Senator; the Northern region, called Republic of Mayz, would have current governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos, as President; the Southeast, Republic of Capryo, would elect Aecio Neves, current Senator; the Midwest region, the Republic of  Araguay, would be leaded by Katia Abreu, also a current Senator; and the South region, Republic of Platyna, would be ruled by Jaime Lerner, a former Governor.

A character to be achieved
In the end of the book, he calls on the people to rise up and struggle for a national character free of indulgencies. In fact, the author points that the Brazilian people are dispersed in a flush of energy, intelligence and courage. The proposal of division would inspire them to discuss the so called “the country of the future”, at least.  Inspired by Helen Keller, he´d coted: Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.
